Freeware! Self-love! What’s not to like?

If there’s something particularly inescapable and hard-wired into the typical God-fearing, blue-blooded capitalist American brain, it’s the preoccupation with perfection.

I’m Jay Tobin, the founder of dayflower studio, a creative digital agency, which just launched this June. I specialize in sound design, interactive installations, and game development. When I’m not working on my studio, I’m building open-source audio freeware, like Max for Live devices.

I’ve been making things for years, but too scared to share them out of fear that my pieces/code/projects weren’t “finished.” Particularly during the pandemic, I’ve learned the only way to move past harmful notions and destructive patterns is to put conscious effort towards undoing them, however difficult and exhausting it may be.

software sprouts by dayflower studio — aka this newsletter — is just the beginning of my journey of getting comfortable with my work. If you have the patience for it, subscribe and stick around to watch as I attempt to force my creative buds to blossom, like musically-inclined daffodils on the cusp of a self-accepting spring. I’ll also be sharing my learnings from the whole self-employed, small business owner thing.

If you’re not into that, I’ll be sharing a ton of free software anyways. The whole point here is that I’ll be popping out some work for anyone and everyone to enjoy or do what they please with, so stay for the freeware!
